Making Fall Break Plans?

Flood damaged debris from homes lines a street Sept. 7 in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in Houston.

Although not as notorious as its spring counterpart, fall break is a great time for students to take a break from their hectic class schedule.  Many students will head home to relax with their families, while others plan a crazy adventure trip to get away!  We wanted to recognize an awesome group of students from Baylor University in Waco, Texas that are dedicating their fall break time to head down to South Texas to aid the residents in their recovery from Hurricane Harvey.  61 students and three faculty members are using this perfect three day time frame from Thursday to Sunday to start clearing out homes of elderly people and young families to begin the next phase of rebuilding.  These houses were sitting in about four feet of water for 10 days after Harvey made landfall causing major flooding and damage in Houston.  The trip was primarily paid for through donors who made this possible and affordable for them to get down there to help out.  For those of you who can’t physically make it down south to help, there are a variety of ways to help.  After receiving an overwhelming number of inquiries from citizens and companies who want help, Houston’s mayor, has created the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund that is administered by the public charity “Greater Houston Community.”
